So tonight I went to CVS, RiteAid, and Shaw's and got some pretty good deals! I figured I would show some real life examples of how I saved money while shopping! Hope this helps to give you a better idea of money saving tips. Just for reference MC= manufacturer's coupon, SC = Store coupon, OOP= out of pocket
My first stop was Rite Aid where I was really rushed as it was nearing closing time and I had a hard time locating a product. I know I could have done much better here if I split into two transactions however it was late and the cashier was less than friendly! But alas I still saved a bunch so I can't complain. I did this all in one transaction which really just shows you can save even if you don't do multiple purchases in one shopping trip.
1 Cerave Lotion Original Price $13.99
Sale Price= $10.99
- MC $1/1= $9.99 OOP
Earned $2 UpReward Final Price $7.99 for lotion that usually costs me $12.99-13.99 depending upon where I purchased it!
2 Oral B Toothbrushes $2.69 each= $5.38/2
B1G1 Free coupon =$2.69/2 OOP
Earned $5.38 in UpRewards each toothbrush got the reward even though I only paid for one OOP meaning I made $2.69 buying two toothbrushes!
2 Veet 20ct wax strips $4.49 each= $8.98/2
- (2) $2 In Ad SC= $4.98/2
-(2) $2 MC printable = $.98/2 OOP
Earned $1 UpReward for each of the Veet wax strips equaling making $1.02 for buying two!
2 Banana Boat Sprayable sunscreens= $9.99/2 (They were B1G1Free on sale)
- $2 Rite Aid Video Values SC= $7.99/2
- (2) $1 MC from 6/26/11= $5.99/2 OOP
2 Excedrin Migraine 24 ct $1.99 each = $3.98/2
- $1 Rite Aid Video Values SC= $2.98/2
- (2) $1 MC printable = $.98/2
Earned $1 UpReward for each which is a profit of $1.02 for buying the two boxes of Excedrin!
I had a coupon for $3/15 or more from completing a survey (This offer prints at the bottom of your receipt IF you get one!)
TOTAL OOP $17.63 with $11.38 in UpRewards for next week. If you subtract the amount I got back from what I spent its only $6.25 for everything that I got!
Next I was off to Shaw's to get a few things for my mom as she is amazed by all of the stuff I can get money off on, but she doesn't know how to do it herself so I offered to help! She said she was in need of paper towels and I was going to purchase them elsewhere BUT once Shaw's released their dollar doubler coupons today I knew I would get her a better deal at Shaw's! And I even made out since she's paying me back for what she needed AND I got something extra as you will see!
4 8count packs of Bounty paper towels $6.99 each= $27.96
- (4) $1 MC = $23.96
-(4) Store Doubler coupons= $19.96 OOP
3 Boxes of Puffs tissues $.99 each= $2.97 OOP
2 Vlassic Sweet Relish $1 each= $2
-(2) MC $.55(which double)= $-.20 (takes 20cents off the other stuff your buying)
Total OOP $22.73 AND I got a $15 ITunes gift card for free by spending $30 on select products (the Puffs and Bounty) AND im getting back almost $20 from my mom (She doesn't want the gift card at all!). So I spent around $3 and earned a $15 gift card for free!!
Finally I was off to CVS with my list and coupons in hand! Very busy in there tonight but I split my transactions into two like I needed to and the people behind me just had to deal with waiting! I used to feel bad making other people wait but we are all paying customers so I got over feeling guilty really quickly. So here is what I purchased at CVS:
Transaction #1
5 Dove Color Care Shampoo $3 each= $15/5
-(5) $1/1 MC from 6/26/11 = $10/5 OOP
Earned $5 in Extrabucks by spending $15 on Dove products. You are limited to doing this deal once and you need to either spend $15 on men's OR $15 on women's it does not seem to let you mix and match!
Transaction #2
2 Huggies Pullups for Boys $9 each= $18/2
-(2) $2/1 MC printables =$14/2 OOP
Earned $4 in Extrabucks for buying two pullups
2 Lay's Lightly salted potato chips $1.88 each= $3.76 OOP
Used the $5 extrabucks from the first transaction on this second transaction.
Total OOP $22.76 for both transactions and I have $4 to spend at CVS next week! Not bad considering as all of us with kids in diapers or pull-ups that those are VERY pricey!
No I did not walk away with a truck load of free stuff but I did get some really great deals on things that I use! I was very happy with my shopping trip I spent around $38 OOP (on my items) and have a total of $14.38 to spend between two stores AND a $15 ITunes gift card! Not bad for only being out about 40minutes to shop!
